Why you need a dietitian vs. a nutritionist
The real difference
You might not know it, but there’s a big difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist.
To become a dietitian there are tons of requirements, including completing a 900-hour supervised internship, passing exams to become a registered dietitian, and most importantly it’s required to have your master's degree to practice so you can prescribe a diet as medical nutrition therapy.
On the other hand, nutritionists only need a bachelor's degree and cannot prescribe a diet to anyone. Instead, they can offer very general nutritional advice that usually can’t be tailored to every client. For example, they reference the food pyramid and things of that nature.
